I really think that joining ROTC (on scholarship) should be a decision that you do not do on a whim. You have to think of all of the cons as well as the pros. Just make sure you want to do it for the right reasons and don't be wowed by the amount of money they are offering you.
Ok, after I got that out of the way, I want to let you know that I have enjoyed Army ROTC a lot. It has been a bunch of fun and allowed me to learn things I never would have taking just the regular college class load. These include fun stuff such as land navigation, squad tactics, parachuting (see my airborne experience page), and shooting the M16. I have become better speaking in front of people and giving presentations, and have in general felt more comfortable being a leader and a good follower as well.
Advanced Camp is a requirement after your Junior year and is 5 weeks in Washington State. You do get to do a lot of fun stuff and meet a lot of great people (see my Advanced Camp page). Bottom line, it can be a great experience, and it's what you make of it.
I am now a Second Lieutenant in the Army, but I am attending medical school, so I am delaying my obligation until I am done school. If you have any questions about the path that I followed, send me an e-mail.
If you want to talk to me about my experience or if you have any questions, you can write me at doc@docandrev.com.
